Destination ImagiNation of Kentucky
Volunteer Opportunities
The Kentucky Destination ImagiNation®
program is managed and administered entirely by volunteers. Kentucky DI is
always in search of volunteers to help run its student programs and annual Affiliate
Tournament. For our Affiliate Tournament,
there are many volunteer roles available. Here are some of the qualities we are seeking
for tournament
Appraisers:
- Kid friendly - someone who enjoys being around and talking to kids;
- Upbeat
demeanor, and smiling easily;
- Willing to ask pertinent questions of
student teams about their solution, while listening carefully and
thoughtfully to their answers;
- Broad minded - willing to accept that
there are many possible solutions to DI challenges (if DI Rules of the
Road and challenge-specific rules don't prohibit a solution, it's
allowed!);
- Analytical - will carefully read and understand the
challenge s/he is assigned to, and give careful attention to ALL of the
solutions as they are presented;
- Fair and constructively critical,
willing to give every point a team has earned - not more, and not
less. [Some folks want to give 100% to every team, and some folks go
out of their way to deduct points; but neither of these approaches is good
for the teams because they won't learn the appropriate lessons.]
- Works
well with others - the appraisal team is just like a student DI team; we
need a variety of talents and abilities, and we need to get along well with
one another so that we can provide the best and most fair appraisal
possible.
